Winterthur agency system

Customer
Winterthur Insurance, Switzerland

Business Case
Winterthur Insurance needed a new Smalltalk persistence framework for their agency system V3. After a tough shootout MPF/Smalltalk was selected because of its high performance, its unique features like transaction replication, its configuration options and server side optimization.

Technology
V3 is built as client/server system with the ability to replicate objects from the agent laptops to the agency database and from the agency databases to the headquarter system. MDS (MicroDoc Server) is used to access the objects when running online. Direct database access is used in offline mode. A headless version of the application has been integrated into the CORBA based Winterthur portal.
