There is a standard procedure how we handle custom platform runtime requests for IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro/Custom Environment and Lotus Expeditor for Devices:
To evaluate the technical feasibility of a runtime port to your target platform, we need you to fill out our technical und commercial assessment form [the form is available from Volker Hoefer: vho at microdoc.com].
We will evaluate your setup and tell you, usually with a day or two, whether we think a port is possible or not. At that point, we can usually give you a rough idea about the cost for the port.
Step 1 is free of charge
Step 2
If a port is possible, we need you to send us a copy of your hardware with the required operating system installed and a copy of the necessary development tools as well as a confirmation that we are allowed to use the software and hardware free of charge for testing and development [standard form provided by MicroDoc]. We execute a series of compatibility tests and try to create an initial runtime port for you platform, which we will provide to you for testing (given the initial steps are succesfull). At that point, we can usually give you a fixed price offer for the porting and maintenance cost.
If you chose to not order the port, we will send back the loan hardware and software immedidately.
There is a fixed fee for Step 2, which is €3000.- + VAT if applicable for headless configurations and € 5000.- + VAT if applicable for devices with grafics support. (The fee may be waived under certain conditions)
If you order the port, we will perform the work and finalize the job by running our internal regression test suite. All ported custom IBM runtimes are and remain original IBM products and will be made available to IBM for product verification and quality assurance. You will receive the ported material under our OEM contract.
Given you opted for a port of a JavaME(TM) version, we will perform the TCK test suite on behalf of IBM and send the test results for verification to IBM. IBM will then confirm that the port has passed the test (usually during a four weeks timeframe). Execution of the TCK will be separately priced.
Please note that JavaME(TM) is a trademark of Sun Microsystems, and that JavaME(TM) compliant products may only be used when they passed the TCK test successfully.
