One of the largest German retail companies approached MicroDoc to review the design and architecture of their new e-commerce site. Up to this point the site was implemented using PHP but suffered from performance and extensibility problems. The first step for the new solution was to redesign the backend layer which was moved to a J2EE standard application server.
Because the site has several hundred thousand hits a day the new architecture must be carefully chosen to avoid bottlenecks and data loss.

MicroDoc identified a couple of problems with this approach like communication bottlenecks, missing fault tolerance and critical coupling of development streams. Most of these concerns were tackled by a slightly modified architecture and development plan.
Overall the review took one month and was mostly in Workshops with the customer.
